Passport

In order to apply for a Nepal visa you need to present your passport, which has to meet the following conditions:

  • Your passport has a validity of at least 6 months after the expiry date of your visa,
    It is also important that your passport contains at least 2 empty visa pages that are opposite each other.
  • In addition to your original passport, we need to receive a digital scan of your passport information page.

This is required to create your visa application form. This scan must:

  • Contain a clearly legible photo of your passport information page,
  • All corners of your passport must be fully visible,
  • The photo should not be overexposed or underexposed,
  • The information on your passport page must be clearly legible. Any blurring or blurred text may result in rejection of your visa Nepal application,
  • The scan needs to be in .PDF, .JPG/.JPEG format.

Passport photo

In order to be able to apply for a Nepal visa, you need to have a digital passport photo in .JPG/.JPEG format for drawing up the consular form and in addition you need to provide a hardcopy of an official, colour passport photo that complies with the following conditions:

  • The photo is less than 3 months old
  • The background is white or light grey in colour
  • The dimensions are 3.5 x 4.5 cm
  • There is no damage to the passport photo
  • The passport photo is not stapled to the visa application form
  • The person in the photo is looking straight at the camera
  • No glasses are worn in the photo

Additional documents

Travelers to Nepal must provide the following in addition to passport and passport photo:

  • One signed embassy form per person (you will receive this completely filled in from us after completing our online application form, you only have to sign the form), the passport photograph may not be attached (glued or stapled) to this!
  • Copy of the flight confirmation (which must state the name of the traveler(s). It must be able to show when you will enter and leave Nepal.

Validity

What is a Nepal visa and when do I need it?

If you want to go to Nepal for a holiday or business trip, you need to apply for a Nepal visa before you leave. You need a Nepal visa to show that you have permission from the Nepalese government to enter the country. This visa is inserted into the passport by an employee of the Nepalese consulate.

  • Nepal only has a regular tourist visa.
  • You cannot apply for a business Nepal visa in the Netherlands.

Business travellers and students need to convert their tourist visa to a business or study visa for Nepal once they have arrived in Kathmandu. This should be done at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply in Nepal, in Kathmandu. The Ministry of Industry has a sub-department called the Ministry of Industry, which takes care of these visas and is mainly concerned with the implementation of rules and regulations set by the Nepalese government.

To initiate your visa application Nepal, we need to have a number of documents, including passport and passport photograph. You need to deliver these documents physically to us. It is not possible to apply for an e-visa Nepal as Nepal does not have an electronic visa. You can only apply for a visa Nepal in Amsterdam. This has to be done at the Consulate General. They handle the Nepal visa applications on behalf of the Embassy of Nepal in Brussels.

To be able to apply for your visa Nepal, we first need to have a number of documents, such as your passport, passport photo and consular form. This form can be created online first. You need to upload a digital passport photo and a photo of your passport information page. After that, you can print the form, sign it and hand it over to us together with your passport, passport photo and airline tickets. That is all you need to apply for a visa for Nepal!

Do you have an alien’s passport/refugee’s passport as a so-called travel document? Then you cannot apply for a Nepal visa in the Netherlands. You are then required to appear in person at the Nepalese Embassy in Brussels to present your Nepal visa application.

What types of visas are there for Nepal?

Nepal has several types of visas. Both tourist and business travellers should apply for a regular tourist visa in advance. This tourist visa is inserted into the passport and is valid from the moment of issue. It allows you to stay in Nepal for 15, 30 or 90 consecutive days.

It is possible to extend this visa locally. However, we cannot guarantee that the extension of the visa will be honoured. Therefore, we strongly recommend to apply for a visa for Nepal in advance, with sufficient days of stay. Then you will not have to deal with long waiting periods and extra costs while extending your visa in Nepal.

You can locally convert the Tourist Visa Nepal to one of the following visa types: Business Visa, Work Visa, Journalist Visa, Relationship or Marriage Visa (for those married to a Nepali passport holder/resident), Reciprocity Visa, Student Visa, Resident Visa and Non-Resident Visa.

Costs Visa Nepal

The costs for a visa to Nepal differ per visa type. You pay only 5 USD for a transit visa to Nepal, but the costs can easily rise to 200 USD for a business visa valid for one year. The consular fees per visa type, required documents and conditions can be found on the website of the Immigration Office in Nepal.

All visa types Nepal, which you can apply for in advance at the consulate in Amsterdam, allow you to travel in and out of Nepal several times. This means that for short trips to, for example, India or Bhutan you can travel back into Nepal on the same visa, provided that it is within the validity and you have not exceeded the maximum number of days of stay.

Business and Student Visa for Nepal

Business travellers and students need to have their visa for Nepal converted at the Ministry of Industry in Kathmandu. This means applying for a tourist visa Nepal for business travellers and/or students. After arrival in Kathmandu they have to change this visa to the correct visa type.

The new visa will be valid at the moment of issue. If you change your tourist visa just before the expiry date, your new visa will be valid from the moment it was issued. In case of a student visa you can often find the effective date in the letter of recommendation of the Ministry of Education.

Processing Time, Visa Validity and Fees for Visa Nepal

In most cases Visa Nepal is issued on the same day of application. However, there is an additional administration fee for the Visa Nepal, if it has to be issued the same day. Sometimes the passport can be picked up the next working day, but in most cases you will have your passport with the visa back in your possession within 2 to 3 working days after handing it over to us in Hoofddorp.

If we have received the passport and documents on working days before 10:00, it can usually be presented to the consulate the same day. This means that the passport containing the visa for Nepal will often be returned to us the same day. However, this is not a guarantee, as the consulate always reserves the right to take longer if they deem it necessary for the assessment. The processing time therefore depends on the speed and availability of the Nepal consulate.

Validity of Visa to Nepal

The validity of a visa to Nepal varies depending on the type of visa. In general, a regular visa to Nepal is valid for 6 months from the date of issue. Until this period you can enter Nepal on your visa.

It is possible to get a visa with a shorter validity, if the Nepalese consulate decides so.

Visa Nepal on Arrival

In some cases it is possible to obtain a Visa on Arrival in Kathmandu. The Nepalese government strongly advises against this as the local immigration officers always have the right to refuse you entry, without giving any reason. It is also possible that the airline does not allow you to check in without a visa for Nepal. Please check with your airline well in advance so that you can, if necessary, apply for a visa for Nepal in time.

Children up to and including 10 years old can obtain a visa for Nepal for free. They do not have to pay consular fees.
