What is a visa for Turkey?

If you want to travel to Turkey, you must have a travel document and a visa Turkey and take it with you on your trip. The travel document can be a passport or an ID card.

There are a number of requirements, which are explained on this page. The requirements depend on the country in which the travel document was issued. For example, for residents of certain countries it is possible to travel with an ID card, while for residents of other countries it is only permitted to travel with a passport with sufficient remaining validity.

The type of visa to be applied for is also not the same for all nationalities. Usually the e-visa Turkey, which can be applied for online, is sufficient. Apply for a visa Turkey

The visa for Turkey is nowadays an electronic visa for almost all nationalities. Since 2014 there is a visa requirement for Turkey for both Dutch and Belgian nationalities, who plan to travel with an ID card. Are you travelling with a Dutch passport? Then you do not need to apply for a visa before departure.

Which visa variants for Turkey are there?

The most common visa is the electronic visa (e-visa), which is intended for tourist and business travellers. There is also the regular visa. This regular visa Turkey is meant for people who want to work, study, truck drivers and media personnel in Turkey.

Turkey visa costs, processing time and validity

Despite the long visa validity period of 180 days, the Turkish visa allows you to stay in Turkey for only 90 days. So you may stay in Turkey once for 90 days, or 90 times for one day, and everything in between. All these trips must be made within the 180-day validity period. The validity period applies to the whole journey, so not only each arrival must take place before the 180th day, but also the last departure from Turkey.

Do you want to stay in Turkey longer than the e-visa allows? Then you should report to the nearest Provincial Directorate for Migration Management in Turkey. If you fail to do so and stay in Turkey beyond your visa validity, you may be fined, deported or banned from entering the country.
