What is a Visa Russia application and when do I need it?
Below you can read all the necessary information about the Russia visa.
What is a Russia visa?
The Russia visa is a consent document from the consulate to enter the Russian Federation. You can apply for the Russia visa through the Russian embassy or consulate. This consent document is a visa, which must be affixed to your passport before you can enter the country. This document is also called an (e-) visa Russia and you must always apply for the trip in advance. There are different types of visa Russia. On our website you can see exactly which applies to your trip or situation. In addition to the standard business and tourist visa Russia, we can also apply for a Russia visa for Medical or Journalistic purposes. If you are not sure which visa applies to your situation, we request that you contact us by telephone in advance.
Apply for a Russia visa online
You can apply for your Russia visa by filling in the application form on our website. You will then receive a personal e-mail containing an overview of the documents to be submitted by you for the Russia visa. We need these documents to be able to apply for your visa for Russia. You will also receive the consular form for the Russia visa. As a result, you no longer have to prepare the consular form for your Russia visa application yourself and you no longer have to deal with difficult or unclear government websites, which saves time. As soon as you have collected all the necessary documents for your Russia visa application, you must – depending on the type of visa – deliver them to us physically or by e-mail. Are you applying for an electronic visa for Russia? Then you can submit the application completely online and submit the documents by e-mail. Would you rather apply for a regular visa for Russia? Then, in addition to your passport, you must also physically deliver all necessary documents to us. This must be done together with your passport and passport photo. You can read above what supplies these are.
You no longer have to go to the consulate yourself.
Previously, the applicant had to travel to the consulate to issue the passport and documents and to collect them at the consulate in The Hague. Traveldocs takes that effort off your hands by doing this for you. You can also use our Pick-up and drop-off courier service. At an additional cost we can send a private courier to your home or office address, who will collect the passport and documents from you and bring them to us. Of course we also offer the possibility to receive the passport back by courier.
For this you pay additional costs of € 29.95 including VAT. If you have other wishes regarding the return of your passport, we offer various services for this. The costs of the courier service can be found in our rate overview. We will contact you upon collection to agree when and where our courier can report and of course also inform you by telephone as soon as the passport with visa is ready. Do you not yet know what your wishes are?
That is not a problem at all. You can always make your wishes known to us later in the process and make the payment via an online link. Contact us for the possibilities or take a look at our website.
Business or tourist, an invitation letter is required.
All travelers must submit with the application an invitation letter from the Russian organization, which will be visited by the traveler. Tourists can often obtain an invitation letter from their travel agent or overnight place in Russia. Do you not have an invitation letter? You can have the invitation letter provided by Traveldocs for an additional fee. To make this possible, you must tick this when placing the order on our website. We will then add the letter to the application as soon as we have received all the necessary documents from you.
What types of Russia visas are there?
Which variant of the Russia visa you have to apply for depends on your travel purpose.
Electronic visa Russia
Russia has recently introduced an electronic visa variant, the so-called e-visa Russia. This is an online visa Russia, which is intended for the regions of Kaliningrad Oblast, Leningrad Oblast or St. Petersburg. With this electronic visa you may enter one of these countries by plane and you are not allowed to leave the city limits of the city. You are therefore not allowed to go to both Moscow and St. Petersburg with this visa. You must enter and exit the city from the same point (airport). Your stay may also not be longer than 8 consecutive days. Do you want to visit several places in Russia or do you want to stay longer than 8 days in Kaliningrad Oblast, Leningrad Oblast or Saint Petersburg? Then you should opt for the regular visa for 9 to 30 days. This electronic visa Russia will be sent to you by e-mail after approval and can be applied for completely online. You do not need to physically supply any documents for this. The advantage of the electronic visa Russia is that this is a free visa, without consular costs. At Traveldocs you only pay the mediation costs for processing your electronic visa Russia application.
Apply for a regular visa for Russia
The most famous variant is the regular visa Russia, which is applied as a sticker in your passport. This allows you to travel freely in Russia for a period of 30 days and you can travel in and out of the country by land, sea and plane. You are also not bound to a fixed entry and exit point. You must, however, physically deliver the documents in the supplies to us and you will lose your passport during the processing time. Traveldocs submits your Russia visa application for you and collects it for you, so your work is minimal. You only need to provide the correct documents and we will take care of the rest for you.
You can apply for both visa variants for Russia on our website.

On average, applying for the Russia visa takes between 7 and 10 working days after the moment of submission, before you receive the passport with visa back. Is your application in a hurry? Business travelers can get a visa Russia with a validity between 3 months and 12 months. The validity of the visa is ultimately decided by the consulate, with the letter of invitation always leading. Do you want to stay in Russia longer than the dates stated in your invitation letter or do you want to have multiple entries and these are not mentioned in the invitation letter for Russia? In that case, you will first have to adjust it (or have it adjusted), because the consulate will still retain the travel details in the invitation letter for the Russia visa.
Tourist travelers can get a visa with a validity of 3 months. If it concerns a trip to family or a medical, in some cases it is also possible to obtain a visa of 3 to 6 months. In addition, there are options for multiple entries. There are specific requirements and conditions for this and we do not offer this as standard on the website. For information about this visa, please contact us first.
