The Egyptian Immigration Service recommends applying for the visa a few weeks before departure. Normally, an application does not take more than a few hours, but in the rare cases that an application is rejected, there is still enough time to make an appointment at the consulate to possibly obtain a different type of visa.

The passport of application must be valid for at least 6 months upon arrival in Egypt. If you apply for a new passport after the application, you must also apply for a new visa as they are linked, so a visa linked to an expired passport is not valid.
