What is a visa for Indonesia?
If you want to go to Indonesia for a holiday or business trip, you have to apply for a regular visa before entering the country. The visa is a sticker, which is issued by the Indonesian government and is placed in the passport. The visa Indonesia gives you permission to enter the territory of Indonesia. This visa is issued by the Embassy of Indonesia in The Hague.
The visa will be checked during passport control in Indonesia. Are you arriving by plane? Then the first visa check will probably take place at the airport.
Our staff will work professionally to ensure that your visa application for Indonesia is presented to the Indonesian embassy without any errors, so you can travel with peace of mind.
Different types of visa for Indonesia
You can apply for various types of visa for Indonesia. The type of visa depends on your purpose of travel. The most common types of visa are a visa Indonesia for tourist reasons or a visa Indonesia for business purposes. However, you also have a visa Indonesia for journalists, a visa Indonesia for students, a work visa Indonesia, a transit visa Indonesia and a visa Indonesia on personal invitation (Social Cultural).
With a socio-cultural visa you can do an internship in Indonesia. For this visa Indonesia you also have to show a letter of invitation of a person in Indonesia, who will be your guarantor during your entire stay. This invitation must be authorised by the Indonesian immigration service in Jakarta.
The purpose of your trip determines which type of visa Indonesia you need to apply for. Are you not sure which visa Indonesia applies to your situation? Please do not hesitate to contact us! Our staff will be happy to advise you and help you on your way.
Processing Time and Visa Validity Indonesia
Normally the processing time takes only 6 working days from the moment of application. In busy (holiday) periods this can increase to 8 to 10 working days. Therefore, always apply for your visa about 6 weeks before departure, to be sure that everything is arranged in time and you will receive your visa on time. The embassy of Indonesia has no rush procedures when applying for your visa. We can expedite the visa application for you, but once it is submitted, it is up to the Indonesian Embassy to process your application. From that moment on they will determine how fast the processing of your visa Indonesia will be.
Visa Indonesia costs
The costs for the visa Indonesia (60 days) are as follows:
- The costs of the tourist visa Indonesia are € 89.95 for a 60 day stay visa and single entry visa.
- You can apply for a business visa Indonesia from € 89.95 for a single entry visa with a stay of 60 days. In addition, business travellers are also eligible for an annual visa Indonesia with multiple entries for € 146.95.
This includes processing fees, consular fees, transaction fees and VAT.
The cost for a 60 day visa Indonesia is therefore € 89.95 per person per application. Regardless of whether you are travelling for business or pleasure.
You can also choose to process your application with urgency. This means that we will process your visa application immediately on working days between 0900 and 1700 hours. Please note that we charge an additional fee for processing your visa application with urgency. These costs are 16,95 Euro including VAT per application. Please note that the urgency fee for the visa Indonesia is only meant so that we can process your application immediately after receipt. The Embassy does not offer the possibility for an urgency fee for your visa Indonesia application. Do you choose to process your visa Indonesia without urgency? In that case you will receive a message from us within 2 working days.
Do you want to collect data and/or documents or have them delivered to your home? In that case you will have to pay additional shipping costs. Information about fees and charges can be found on the page rates.
Apply for an Indonesian visa in advance or arrange for an Indonesian visa on arrival
This depends on the number of days you will stay in the country. Indonesia has a free stamp, which stands for a visa free entry with a maximum stay of 30 days. A visa for Indonesia is therefore not always necessary in advance. A visa free entry is not a visa for Indonesia.
There is also a Visa on Arrival, which the traveller can buy at the airport of arrival. This is a small sticker that is placed in the passport. It is important to note that you can only extend a Visa on Arrival if your stay is unexpectedly longer than planned. If you have only obtained an entry stamp, you have to leave the country after 29 days and you can only re-enter Indonesia after 24 hours with a visa. So in fact this is a 30 day visa Indonesia.
- Although you can extend a Visa on Arrival for 30 days, it will not be issued if you indicate in advance that you intend to stay longer than 30 days in Indonesia. The Indonesian immigration authorities may then consider that you should have applied for a proper visa for Indonesia before you left and consequently refuse to grant you entry or extend your Visa on Arrival.
- Even if you cannot prove that you will leave the country within 30 days, you must apply for a regular visa before departure.
The visa-free regime only applies to stays of less than 30 days, with a possible extension.
Indonesian immigration officers reserve the right to refuse you entry or to ask for additional documents at any time, if they deem it necessary for the assessment of your entry request. A visa for Indonesia does not guarantee entry into the country.
Visa Indonesia on Arrival
A visa Indonesia on arrival (VOA) costs approximately USD 25. This fee may be adjusted at any time without prior notice, if the Indonesian government decides to do so. You can purchase a Visa on Arrival (VOA) at the following airports in Indonesia.

Bandung Airport
Is your arrival point in Indonesia the airport of Bandung? Please note that it is not possible to obtain a Visa on Arrival there! In that case you are obliged to apply for a visa before you leave, unless it is only a transfer of less than 12 hours, during which you will not leave the transit zone.
Applying for an Indonesian visa in advance can save you a lot of trouble, uncertainty and long queues at the airport. Do you know before departure that your stay will be longer than 30 days? Then you are also obliged to apply for an Indonesian visa in advance at the embassy.
Extending your visa in Indonesia and applying for the Social Cultural Visa
Do you want to extend your visa Indonesia? This is possible under certain conditions at the local immigration office in Indonesia. With the standard 60 day tourist visa Indonesia you can enter Indonesia within 2 months after obtaining the visa. Upon arrival the validity of 60 days starts.
Do you want to stay longer in Indonesia? Then you can extend the 60 day tourist visa Indonesia once with 30 days extra.
Apply for a Social Culture Visa Indonesia
Do you want to stay longer than 60 or 90 days on one visa in Indonesia? Then you might want to apply for a Social Cultural Visa Indonesia. One of the conditions is that you have a sponsor in Indonesia, who financially guarantees your stay in Indonesia. This sponsor must draw up a letter of invitation for you and must request a sponsor letter from the immigration officers/immigration office in Jakarta. The immigration officers will apply a Materai, a kind of seal, to the sponsor letter, which will legalise the letter for use in the Netherlands. The applicant must provide a copy of this sponsor letter, together with a clear photo or scan of the invitee’s KTP card. A KTP-card is a kind of Indonesian identity card and stands for Kartu Tanda Pendukuk.
The Social and Cultural Visa Indonesia can be extended a maximum of 4 times, allowing you to stay in Indonesia for a total of 180 consecutive days. You can arrange this on the spot in Indonesia at the local immigration office. However, you should note that the Social Cultural Visa Indonesia, when issued, is often valid for 60 days. You will need to arrange for its extension once you have arrived in Indonesia. This can be done up to 10 days before the expiry date of your current Visa Indonesia.
Upon arrival, you will be asked for your flight ticket, hotel confirmation (if applicable) and an overview of sufficient financial means (such as a credit card or bank statement). If one or more of these documents shows that your stay will be longer than 30 days, you may be refused entry or an extension of your Visa on Arrival may not be granted, as you should have applied for an Indonesian visa before you left.
Exceeding your visa validity
If you do not arrange the extension of your visa on time and you still stay in Indonesia after the expiry date of your visa, you risk a fine or even a country disqualification. Then you run the risk of a fine or even denial of entry. This means that it may take up to two years before you are allowed to travel into Indonesia again. In extreme cases, the Indonesian government may decide to deny you permanent access to Indonesia. This may have consequences not only for your visa application for Indonesia, but also for other destinations. Please note that the consequences of overstaying your visa also apply to the tourist and business visa Indonesia.
Avoid problems by submitting your visa application for Indonesia in time and arrange any extensions in time. Never stay longer in the country than is allowed and obtain sufficient information before departure about the local regulations and conditions of a possible extension of the visa for Indonesia.
Apply for an e-visa Indonesia
The Indonesian government has launched an electronic e-visa for Indonesia as of 26 April 2021. This is an electronic travel authorisation, which will replace the regular visa sticker. You can apply for this e-visa online via the website of the Indonesian ‘imigrasi’ or immigration service. The Indonesian government is currently rolling out the e-visa Indonesia. There is a quota of 600 visas per day, which can only be applied for between 02:00 at night and 08:00 in the morning, Dutch time, or between 03:00 WIB and 15:00 WIB. In addition, the traveller must have a sponsor in Indonesia, which must be registered in the system of the ‘Imigrasi’. At this moment only business travellers and holders of a residence permit (KITAS/KITAP) can apply for this visa. You may still have to submit your application physically to the Indonesian Embassy in The Hague.
It is not yet clear when tourist travelers may apply for this e-visa Indonesia. Through our website you can only apply for the regular visa Indonesia. Do you want to apply for an electronic business visa Indonesia? Then we can help you at the intermediary fee of 38.95 excl. Please note that you have to submit the application yourself!
